When your driving on the interstate, see a Honda civic come flying by in the fast lane, decide to catch up to him and ride beside him and see if you can get him to speed up and just nail it and watch his facial expression from 70-100.

bad enough that the overflow couldnt keep up and it was spraying coolant out the rad cap. dont think it hurt the motor though.
replacing the thermostat (has a 180 in it, im putting in a 160) and radiator cap tomorrow, as well as installing an aftermarket water temp gauge, because im fairly certain the factory one isnt accurate. if the tstat and rad cap dont fix it, the only other cooling system component i havent replaced yet is the fan clutch (mucho dinero $$$ bleh)

160? Winter is nearing though. Granted your in AZ right? I'm putting a mopar tstat in, along with an Efan. I dislike my fan clutch.

yep, im in Phoenix. doesnt get too cold here, and right now its hot as hell, so hopefully the 160 will help for the time being. if i have a problem with it when winter comes, ill throw the 180 back in.

160 works great in my 1500. But like said before takes awhile to kick heat. Not so bad on the FL coast though!

96 ZJ sittin up 6" on 35's with 4:56's and a 12k winch. Cuz...why the hell not!?

160 is honestly too cold for a modern engine. There's no reason to run it that cold in the first place, and second, it'll get a bit worse gas mileage and wear the cylinder walls faster due to them being colder.

What's the reason for wanting a 160 in the first place?

Then I run out of gears, and he creeps past...

Don't know what Civics are like in the US, but they're pretty nippy in UK spec. my 4.0 would have no chance against an EK9

We don't have niners here in the UK either only 5.2

trying to get this damn thing to run cooler. helped a little, but its still hotter than id like it (around 220). only cooling system component i havent replaced yet is the fan clutch, gonna pick one up later today. if that doesnt do it, i dont know what will. its got a brand new 3 row all metal radiator, trans cooler bypassed into a large auxiliary cooler, new water pump, new rad cap (18lb), new hoses, and now a new thermostat. the 180 i had in it was only 2000 miles old.

I've put just about any Civic here in its place. Especially these high school kids with the bumble bee exhaust. My 5.2 in my 96 has alot more get up and go than my 5.2 in my dads 97...I dunno.

Cooler t-stat won't fix that. If it's running 20* hotter than t-stat temp, the t-stat is already wide open, so something else is limiting its ability to stay cool. Bad fan clutch could definitely do it, so I'd replace that and see what happens.

Any air in the system? My ZJ ran around 215-220ish until I burped it. Now it's around 205.
