The problem with cork gaskets are they are not flexible and do not bend so they can be difficult to put in without breaking. And if you do not torque your bolts correctly can also cause them to break.
But put in correctly cork can be very good.
It's just easier to use rubber.

I already have the cork one, should I go buy a rubber one just to be safe?

It's entirely up to you. If you already have it might as well use it. Just be very careful putting it in and check it the first couple days to make sure it held right.

never actually totaled up all my receipts, but if i had to guess, id say im somewhere near 4500, including the cost of the Jeep.
feels like id be close to 10 grand if i added in fuel costs. fueleconomy.gov says i spend 7700 more in fuel every 5 years than the average new car

I'm around $12 - 13k into mine, including buying it. And another $14k or so in fuel for the 3.5 years I've owned it o.O
