YES, Another transmission question

Before you blast me, I did search for this answer but didn't find it...
My WJ, I6 & 42re trans, was fine then today going to work as I started from a stop seemed very sluggish. I noticed the MIL was lit. As I continued to work I realized it wasn't going into 1st gear, otherwise it was fine. I pulled the codes at work & got P1757 Gov pressure not 0. I reset the MIL and went into work. Going home in a combination of highway & stop & go it shifted fine, no problems.

Now my question to anyone who has had this problem, Can this wait until the weekend to fix. I plan to drop the pan & do filter & fluid and replace both the Gov pressure sensor & solenoid rather than have them fail in the middle of winter. Can I expect this to act up in the next day again or is this failure somewhat sporadic? Saturday is supposed to be nice out but if I have it happen again, I don't want to trash the tranny driving it that way.

Anyone have an idea I did make it to work today without any problem.
Has anyone had code P1757 come up once and never happen again or is it a sure sign of failure?

it's usually a plugged sensor or noid. if you got the time and can remember how things come apart to put them back together. take out the valve body and clean it as well. it'll do wonders for you.

change both the govenor solenoid and govenor pressure/temp sensor
adjust the bands and change the filter

IF there is a large amount of debris in the pan then have it looked at by a qualified trans shop
the govenor jamb up because metal contaminates them , some metal is normal and the govenor will attract metal because it is simple an electro magnet

thanks for the replies.
I planned to do both this weekend or maybe next weekend since it's a long weekend. Hopefully there's no crap there. I had the tranny rebuilt at 78,000 miles. I changed the fluid after 30,000 (108,000 on the odometer)& put ATF+4 in (also did a home flush to get as much +3 out (that's what the shop put back in in 2004) as I could. The pan was clean then and the fluid still looks clean on the dipstick & smells fresh.

What are the chances that it was a glitch in the system & not a real failure? I have no problem doing the work but I'm sure I could find something better to spend the $200 on that I'd spend for both parts.

pretty high failure rate
most always from contamination it is just a poor system it cannot tolerat even a minor amount of debris

OK, so it's gone 160 miles 50/50, hwy/ local without a failure. Was it a glitch? I'm starting to wonder if I let it go & see what happens. Anybody have a reason to change it now or wait?

they have very small screens in them, and as said pull metal shavings out of the fluid since they're magnets.

your tranny may start hating you at 30k or 200k.

Damn you ratmonkey... you made a good point thanks. I got the solenoid & pressure sensor & put them in today along with a new filter & 7 quarts of ATF+4. I also adjusted the rear band. I will get the front band tomorrow since it's an external adjustment. It was getting dark & I wanted to change my oil too so that's done.

Freekin Walmart, I went there to get ATF figuring I'd save a few bucks but the only ATF+4 they had was there store brand "Tech" whatever they call it. It was less than 3 bucks a quart but I'm not chancing screwing up my tranny with that crap. I would like to know who bottles it for them.

Also FYI
Anyone doing this, the FSM shows the retainer bracket coming off with the solenoid & pressure sensors in place, ain't happenin'. I found you have to remove the 5 bolts, 3 hex head & 2 torx and pull the bracket & solenoid out together. The bracket slides directly up around the sensor but slides in from the side for the solenoid. You can then remove the sensor & put the new one in, then put the new solenoid onto the bracket & seat the solenoid as the brackets going around the sensor. Also the torque isn't stated in the FSM but in another part of the tranny section it identifies the 3 hex head bolts as valve body bolts which get torqued to 100 in lbs. The 2 torx bolts are the same diameter as the filter bolts so I torqued the the same as the filter, 35 in. lbs. The pan bolts get torqued to 13 ft lbs.
