Xenon Retrofit

Ok before all of you flame me, I tried to search for the answer to my question, but theres NO search button. Or at least i cant find it

Anyway my question is, I want to give my 2002 grand cherokee overland some xenons like those that are on my bimmer.

I dont want those ****ty silverstar bulbs.

Where can i buy a xenon light kit that produces oem factory xenon quality. I am looking for one of those expensive kits that are like 500 $ that have all the hardware etc.

Okay paul here's what you can do.
First of all, you need to find out what kind of bulb your low beam uses. It's probably a 9006. I'm not exactly sure. NOW, you won't have a projector in the headlight, so it's not going to have the focused look like your bmw might (if xenon equipped). Okay, now aht you have the number for the lights, go to "" And type in your model (car model). Make sure the numbers on your low beam bulb and the ones they give you online match. If it is a 9006, i happen to have a kit (i think it's 9006) that my friend bought by mistake. He wanted low beams, got highs, etc. (don't do this) he got discouraged, and now i own the kit, $50 less wealthy. the kits online go for $350. They come complete with ballasts, ignitors, capsules, and install instructions. You need somewhere to mount the ballasts. The ignitors will whine a little bit, but you won't be able to hear it with the engine running, or inside the car. I'd reccomend the 6000k, ad thats whats most high end imports use. The 7k's are a little blue. let me know how things work out.

I am going to go for the 6000k. do you have a 6000k kit that you're willing to sell?
also, Is this a simple install? or could i just take it to a mechanic?

Just be prepared... Your housings might melt... So keep everything around so you can go back to stock if it doesn't work out.

woah woah woah, ok back up

first of all those kits on certainly don't look like very good quality to me, you want philips or osram capsules at the very least.

next, the cutoff and spread. bmw along with many other cars use HID projectors, same even have autoleveling. Now let me make this very very clear to anyone interested, putting hids, even real hids into any car, will give you the EXACT same beam pattern and cutoff as YOU had stock. Meaning when you jump in your jeep it will be much brighter yes, but it will NOT be wider, and it will NOT extend any further, this can only be done through optics.

Next, 7k is kind of ricey, no oem hid manufacture will produce anything above 6000k. and ALL, let me say this again, ALL oem hid system use 4300k, and they only use philips or osram. Anything eles is just a bad lie and research beyond will prove it so.

when going after market 4300k should always be used in projectors, even if not hid, they will still produce the same optical illusion to a degree and produce color along the cutoff, the 6000k was only designed to be placed in non hid reflector housings, because they do not contain an hid shield the salt compound into the "orb" was changed slightly.

IMO I would still go 4300k on a WJ, personally I don't think hids and jeep exactly go together, but don't try to put something sporty on an suv.

oh, and the comment about housings melting, I don't know where that rumor started, but using hids this simply cannot happen.

halogen lights like by passing a current through a filiment, which produces something like 90% heat and 10% light, stock halogens in most cars also run at 55w.

now hids, of high intensity discharge work by exacly that, there is no filiment, instead it truely is lighting in a bottle, an electrical arc is formed which produces light (think a carpet spark in the dark only much more powerful) now hids igniteat the same 55watts but then settle in to 35w for normally operation, so your using 40w LESS total, and because your not generating heat there is no way to melt the housingsor anything eles. you can sit there with my finger tips half and inch away from an hid bulb for over an hour and your finger won't burn, try that with something eles

you can search ebay for just philips 9006. they will have philips capsules and usually some other ballasts, but the capsules are what matter, can be had for 300-350 shipped. I buy all my stuff from, more expensive, but its all oem spec or better, and everything has a 5 year warrenty, no one eles offers that

Well first of all it is not legal to just drop a H.I.D kit in the Jeep sorry to burst your bubble but it's not. It will not have the same pattern as the stock set up and that is why it is not legal just to do a drop in kit. While the bulb may look the same they are not and it will cause a LOT of glare to on comeing drivers. If you don't believe me do a search on other sites and read. The Headlamp houseing are formed diffently to prevent the glare with H.I.D

Actually I stated in another post that they are indeed illegal, however its not the beam pattern, to the letter of the law it stats "all DOT approved aftermarket lighting devices providing forward facing light must contain a filiment" etc etc, basically meaning no hids.

9006 is however the best option for a drop in hid kit as a 9006 bulb is the base design for the current D2 hid capsules, meaning it will atleast optically sit in the same place allowing for full use of the shield. some D2R capsules will also help in reducing glare, but without a full retro, this cannot be avoided.

besides, imo, screw other drivers, atleast they see you
