The good news is, the hum of the ProComp Xterrians completely drown out everything else.

I'm pretty sure I can fish it out with a magnet. It wouldn't be the first time!!

Looks great. I'll add this to the stickies as a mod on the faq pages later. Make sure to remind me.

Looks good.

I did a test fit the other day, but did not mount it. I wanted to figure out what I needed to do to get it to mount as easily and cleanly as possible and to try to find a way to minimize cutting. I'll try to get it done this weekend & post up too.

Just so you know .. I took my down spout out .. (those 4 screws in the middle ) and disconnected the fuel lines and spun it 180* so that it angled down intead of up.. THen reattached the fuel lines.. It took some doing but it gave me a better fit than when it was the other way..

Pics look good .. Vette driver..

I couldn't wait till this weekend, so I did it this morning. I tried Swamp Boy's technique of rotating the filler neck 180 in hopes that it would lay flatter, but that didn't work, so I put everything back to it's original location. I did everything vettedriver did regarding the fuel door removal. I even dropped a socket down there similar to what he did but was able to reach down there to retrieve it. I did not have to trim anything, but filed some off of the back of the bezel & drilled 4 new holes to align with the Wrangler's bezel holes. I was hoping to avoid drilling in to the body for the outer ring, but I could not get it to conform to the fender enough without doing it. I went down to the stealership to pick up a Wrangler gas cap, but it wouldn't thread into mine at all - not even close. My original gas cap fits perfectly so I got a replacement one since my original gas cap was coming apart.

Oh yeah, that's why I went through all of this - my gas cap needed replacing anyway

Here are a few pics up close & at a distance. Kind of hard to see in farther away pics, but put them in there to get an overall feel.

Wow looks awesome. What was wrong with the Wrangler cap, just wouldn't thread at all? Are there other locking caps that would work?

Thanks, theone13.
Yep, the Wrangler cap was threaded differently. It wouldn't even start. Others say they had better luck than me. I tried one for a pre-99 model. I'm thinking there may be a locking version of our original caps available through the dealership, in fact the parts guy asked me if I wanted a locking version of the Wrangler cap. I think you might even be able to find one at your local auto parts store. Right now I'm going stick with the original non-locking version. I really don't have to worry about people messing with it out here. As I cruised through the dealership's parking lot on the way out, I noticed that the Wranglers did not have locking caps. I wonder if that's an option? The wife's '99 WJ doesn't have a locking cap behind the fuel door and, come to think of it, my '94 Stang doesn't either.

That looks sweet. What year Wrangler bezel did you ask for at the dealer? Or are they all the same?

On a suggestion from Swamp Boy, I asked for a pre-99 cap.

Here is the new '95 ZJ cap. It even came with a little "leash thingy" like the Wrangler's.
It was the same price as the Wrangler cap.

ok guys....what the hell is going wrong here? Took everything apart that I needed to, but having some problems fitting this bezel to my jeep.

The part that is circled is not deep enough???? the bezel is shaped and its not allowing to be put in far enough. I tried taking the dremel to it and shaving away little by little, but I'm just short of dremeling all the way through and making a large hole?

Another question, the four outer holes, it seems that the diameter of the outer ring isn't big enough. When you drilled those four outer holes and put the screws into the body, how close to the edge were you??? Just seems when I get two of the screws in a good spot the other two are rather close? Thanks for the help

Jeremy

I did a lot of filing on the back side of the bezel, at the top AND bottom. I unscrewed the four screws that held the filler neck in to check my progress. Once I got it pretty close to fitting I and keeping it as centered as I could, I drilled new pilot holes for the inside using the holes in the bezel as a guide. The bezel will never seat perfectly, but it would be close enough. I then drilled pilot holes & screwed in the outer lip. I attached the lower screws first since the lip was furthest away from the fender down there then the upper ones. Like I said, it won't be perfect but if you take your time, you can get it pretty darned close.
I PM's this same message to you.

hey guys, i am having a problem doing this mod. i have a 97 limited. i got a bezel for a 97 tj. it seems that when i get 2 outer bolt holes away from the edge the other two are like half way over the edge. ill get a picture or two posted up tomorow, but i cant even get it lines up enought to drill holes. also that spot circled a couple posts up in the picture, i am having the same problem with that spot, and i shaved the crap outta my bezel. i even tried to pund that area down a little bit but that didnt work lol
