Wrangler 242 swap?

I've got a 96 ZJ 249 and want to swap it with a 242 from a 93 Wrangler, both have the 23 spline input. Am I missing something, or are these compatible with each other? I've looked through the sticky but can't find anything directly related to the input shafts on those 242's.

i dont think the wrangler ever came with a 242. IIRC they all had 231s.

Reliability is relative

I don't have the actual transfer case, it'd be a 2 hour drive both ways to pick it up, so I was hoping to maybe get some opinion here before I make the 4 hour drive.

This is what it says in the sticky:
Quote:
93-95 V8 ZJ's: 46RH transmission, 1.55" 23 spline input shaft
93-95 I6 ZJ's with the 42RE: .840" 23 spline input (with collar)
93 I6 ZJ's with the AW4 or AX15: .750" 23 spline input
All 96-98 ZJ's: .840" 23 spline input
All 96-01 XJ's: .840" 23 spline input
92-95 XJ's: .750" 23 spline input
91 and older XJ's: .750" 21 spline input
Now, I'm pretty sure that I read correctly here that there are only ZJ's and XJ's in that list, no YJ's, TJ's or JK's...

my 231 is from a yj, i just had to swap the input plus front output yoke bc they had 2 ujoint front driveshafts instead of the double cardan

Jeez, yeah I'm sorry about that. I meant to type 231, been looking at this stuff for hours and I guess I got confused. So same question, would the input shaft from a 93 wrangler 231, match my input shaft from my 96 ZJ 249?

have him measure the exposed inpu shaft length, if the spline count matches then it should swap case for case, but because yours is a 96(post gear cut change) and his is a 93 (pre gear cut change)so you will NOT be able to swap your input into it if it doesn't match your's input length
