WJ Power window schematics?
My girlfriend owns a 2003 WJ, and yesterday, in the cold while delivering mail (she is a Rural Postal Carrier, uses her own vehicle) she rolled down the passenger window, it was hesitant, went down half way, stopped completely, and then would not roll back up. It would then only move about 2 inches or so, and when it did you could hear that something was broken inside. I took her door panel off when she got home, looked inside and pulled out a broken piece from inside her door that looked like it was a point where a cable would attach. It is a sort of half circle shaped piece.
Anyhow, I'm wondering if anyone can lead me to a diagram that shows how the internals on a WJ power window system works. Then maybe I can see if I can find where the broken piece goes, and see if I can fix it.
Thanks

After researching and finding some threads about "window regulators" I found a picture of one, and the piece that is broken.
My question is this, does anyone know if we have to replace the entire regulator, or can we just replace this part on it?

Thats kinda what I seem to be finding. I found a really good writeup on how to replace it, so I think thats what we are going to do. In the meantime, she'll just have to deal with a window with a trash bag in it.

Happened to me a week ago. The window is propped-up with a piece of wood, and the remaining gap filled with duct tape. Had no idea how problematic these regulators in the WJ's were until a did a search, Wow!
You'll have to replace the entire assembly, if in fact the plastic cable retainer broke. Just ordered a new assembly from: www.monsterautoparts.com.
Also, not sure which write-up you have, but the following is a excellent write-up with pics. Orginnaly posted here in the forums...

Does the regulator fail? I have had it not roll down a few times. Once about a year ago, worked just fine, then it did it again about six months ago. Always worked next time i tried after I restarted my jeep. Just the other day, both front sides would not roll down. A couple days later the driver side does roll down and passenger side does not? Are these bad regulators?
It is a 99 WJ limited.
thanks go ducks
