WJ passenger side window has fallen and can't get up!

2002 WJ Laredo...SO the window dropped down inside the door and I fished it out with a needle nose pliers and duct tapped it up as we were 500 miles from home. WHen you hit the switch it makes some great grinding noises and it sounds like stuff in there is all rattling around inside the door. Thoughts on what I need to order to replace whatever is broken prior to taking it apart? I live in a area with limited access to parts without a 2-3 day wait and need the thing for a daily driver.

Thanks in advance!

J

Sounds like a window drive unit failure. You may have to order a complete unit, many of those power window units are not repairable.

Window Regulator. Common problem, documented fix.

Do a quick search for some options.

|94 XJ|4.0|NP231|AW4|8.25 Trac Lock|Lotsa miles - SOLD
|99 WJ|4.7|242HD|Vari-lok|Upcountry+BB|DT8000|Dead as of 10/29/2009

If it aint broke, fix it till it is.

Yeah, you have to buy the complete window regulator as a single replacement unit. However, I used a wire hanger fix. Was free and stronger than new! Most time consuming part was taking all the panels, etc.. apart to get to the regulator. Search it.

Motor is fine; the regulator cable snapped off it's plastic anchor.

Oreillys, or advance, or any auto parts store. They will all price match, maybe $5 more than online after shipping, plus you'll get it now.

my cheap fix was to pull the window up and clamp off the cable with vise grips. It got us by until I could locate a new regulator. I guess it would work forever unless you want the window down again.
