wj not staying on

I have a 99 WJ 4.0 with about 123,000 miles.

So at first the engine would just crank. I replaced the crankshaft position sensor and now it turns on and the off. Next i replaced the fuel pump and no luck, it still doesnt stay on.

When i first replaced the fuel pump it stayed on for about 7 minutes, the rpms would go up and then down until finnally turned off. Now it just turns on and then off.

Is there anything that could be causing this???

I'm all about simple solutions, so let's get super simple: are you using the right key? The keys have microchips to start the car and if you use, say, a copy of the key, it'll turn on for two seconds and turn off. Any chance of you've changed keys between then and now?

Not wanting to say you're stupid, but it's nice to cover all the bases...

Also what I was thinking....though I have seen this happen with the correct key as well. Some how, my Jeep quit recognizing my key and it kicked in the Sentry Key Immobilizer System and put it into lock down. Check the lights on the dash and make sure the SKIS light does not stay on. If it does, thats your problem. If not....

If that's your problem, that sucks. You have to go to the dealer and get it allllllll reprogrammed. If you have two, it's super easy to program a third, but I only have 1 and the dealer wants $200 to make a 2nd. :

Note to self: don't lose key.

There's a trick though: if you get a copy made at Home Depot, it will work if you tape the original key under the dash (and out of sight). It has to be close to the ignition to work, that's the only catch.

Dealer should reprogram for you for about 30 minutes labor. Around here it was $45. But if you need a key, they will charge an arm and a leg, maybe even your first born child. You can get keys pretty cheap on ebay though. Then the dealer will just charge the $45 to program it in.
