WJ - Nav retrofit?

I started looking around for a WJ, and noticed the 2k4 (and some rare 2k3s) can have GPS navigation ...
Now the million dollar question is ... let's say I get 2000/2001, can I find and install a Nav system instead of the CD/Cassette combo?
Assuming the upgrade is possible, is there anymore involved than just swapping units?

Thanks in advance

PS - hope this wasn't asked a bazillion times already ... noob can't find the search feature!

yup, its actually a really simple install, pretty much a drop in with an extra harnass, and some earlier ones you need to run a new cable to the cd changer, thats it.

the model you want is the RB1, check it out on www.wjjeeps.com

Where is the RB1 pulling the info from the sats? Are most late model WJs already outfitted with GPS receivers that are just waiting to be hooked up?

The WJ's don't stock come with a GPS antenna.... Its an extra antenna that comes with the RB1 that you connect and put somewhere behind the gauge cluster... I haven't done an install yet as I still need to buy one. But I have been doing a lot of research on the RB1 in the last 24 hours.

I have a 2003 WJ, checked into retrofitting a nav system and also looked at the alternatives. I wound up getting a Garmin 2610 StreetPilot that plugs into the DC recepticle and sits on the dash - sooo glad I did that, sooo nice to have a good GPS.

The only problem was that the voice (giving me directions) sounded too much like my wife (giving me directions)..............so I went into setup mode and changed the voice to have a British accent. (wish my wife had a setup mode)...........ctyjoe

The only problem with this set up for some of us is limited space or clean look.

I know that I personally don't want ANYTHING on top of my dash... few reasons... limits theft probability IMO, Exposed to the hot sun more often then if built Into dash, Cables everywhere and limited space for those that plan to add other things in the cabin like HAM Radios and stuff.

I got an RB1 from my wife for Christmas. Awesome gift!!! I kinda hinted around that she should look on ebay or talk to a friend of mine to get a good deal. But she bought a brand new one (sucks for her $$$), but nevertheless is still awesome.

I just ordered the harness and updated CD changer cord, and from the dealer the total price was about $80. It should be in tomorrow. The info on wjjeeps.com is all you need to complete the install with ease. 100% integration even w/ steering wheel controls...can't beat that. There is a car hacking forum that has hacks/patches so that you can use all of the RB1 even while the vehicle is in motion, instead of limited use above 10mph. But I believe you have to have the newest "AE" version of the navigation CD. I have the AD verson. :-/

"If you are of weak will or questionable moral character we implore you to walk away from the keyboard and forget this patch exists."

Priceless. Not a fan of possible ruining a nav system though. I'm wondering if this really will work in Jeeps though unless this works on a boot format concept, I know many newer units have phyical gyroscopes within the unit to detect movement

I so have to join that forum. I bet I'm the only person that still does programming in Foxpro...

if you read through it, you will see on page 6 that they say this WILL NOT work for the RB1. it is intended for the REC unit. bummer

WOW probably, I haven't even come across the term Foxpro in ten years.

ON topic:

Look on E-bay, parts abound and vendors there post detailed instructions on accessories & installation proceedures. Just do a search in the automotive parts section for RB-1 & you'll get all kinds of info.
