I recently bought 2 new hood prop rod supports from Advanced Auto Parts...I only needed to replace one in order for the hood to stay in the open position. Can the same support rod work for the rear lift gate that work on the hood? Anybody ever done this?
No they are not the same. The hood supports are the cheapest (~$22 ea), followed by the liftgate (~$28 ea), the glass supports, which are the smallest, are the most expensive (~$32 ea). Bought mine from NAPA, size/stroke is different for each set.
I have just replaced all 3 sets - takes a couple minutes per side, very easy.
Your unibody's probably a little twisted. It happens. I have 5 WJ's in my family, and I think mine is the only one that the lift gate opens smoothly. lol Which is weird because I wheel mine the hardest. :2thumbsup:
