WJ big leak in cargo after rain

My friend just bought a 2002 grand Cherokee and the past couples of days has been the first good rain since getting the car. We noticed some water in the trunk today and after looking more carefully there was about an inch of water in the spare tire compartment and most of the carpet in the cargo area was pretty wet. Has anyone had this problem before? Any help would be great thanks!

My guess would be the rear hatch seal, if it has a a sunroof you may want to check that too.

Check the rear window, liftgate & sunroof weather seals (if he has a sunroof). Ensure there's no accessory wires (like Sirius Radio antenna wire) crossing the seals. Ensure the seals are glued tightly to the body. Do some searches here or on JU for "replacing weather seals" or "leaky weather seals" ... etc.

Where was the water pooling? Was the Jeep on level ground?

i had a antenna wire running thru the seal on the bottom corner, and ended up with a puddle of water on the carpet in that area. So look for any breaks in the seals in the hatch, including window.
Installing HID's in stock housings is bad. Here is why.
