So while cleaning leaves out of my 5.9's engine compartment I found this plug on the wiring harness buried in the leaves with some clear tape on it. Its behind the fuse box on the passenger side. Its got the male/female connections, but the wires are missing from one end. Everything is running fine so far as I know, I cant find anything loose in the compartment that this might have belonged to this.
Any ideas what this is?

I'd need to check out the pins which is which, but you can test the e-fan operation by pulling the dummy plug off and doing some measuring and/ or jumper-wire things. Don't play around with it too much, if you connect certain two terminals, you will get a short, a mini-fuse in the PDC will burn, and your Jeep won't fire-up. Don't ask me how I know..
edit: Found it. I copied the e-fan wire harness schematic to my picture archive site:
As for empty wire harness connectors: most vehicles have from a few up to more than a dozen empty connectors all around the vehicle - vehicle manufacturers tend to make only one wire harness version per vehicle body type, so that they can install the wire harness for every one of those vehicles, no matter what the customer wants on it. So, depending on your trim level and amount of optional items/ features ordered, there may be a lot of empty connectors, or almost none.
On the 5.9 Grand Cherokees, most wire harness connectors are in use because our niners were top-of-the-line, and included most of the stuff that were optional on many other ZJs
There may have been hidden ones inside the dash, door panels, under the seats, etc.. not all vehicle manufacturers do it the way Jeep does, but most do. It depends a lot on their harness design though.
5.9 e-fan wire harness is fully independent from the rest of the engine wire harness, but if you ever need to pull it completely out, it's a major pain. I needed to do that last year for thorough inspection at the garage table, because I had some issues with the low speed not working.
