I have a 95 (regular) Cherokee with 30x9.50's and I have little to no problems with them fitting. My girlfriend's 96 GC sits higher than mine, and it has more room in the wheel well than mine did before I put the 30X9.50's on there. (Note: before I put on the 30x9.50's, i had 225 75r15's which is what the GC still has.) So, based on my XJ experiences, and knowing the clearence of a GC, I would say that yes they should fit. You might notice a little rubbing when swinging into parking spots. And hey, if they don't fit, it gives you an excuse to lift it.
