Theoretically it will fit with a lot of work but on the whole no. A 242 from a 90 cherokee most likely has a short 21 spline shaft - I am guessing you have a v-8 if you are looking for a swap - that would mean probably a long 23 spine shaft on your 247? But the other problem is the output shaft, output housing and shifter. The 99 and up transfer cases are cable shifted and everything up to 98 with a grand, 01 with a cherokee and all wrangers are shifted using a shift leverage system. The 90 cherokees use a gear on an insert in the tail housing of the transfer case for the speedometer. You'd have an enormous hole that would be uncovered and no good in that situation. The WJs also use an external slip yoke where as the 90 cherokees use an internal one. This would pose problems of driveshaft length for you. I would look for a transfer case out of a late model WJ Grand Cherokee v-8 (2003 or 2004 I think) that came with a 242. These are a heavier duty version than is found in the 6 cylinder WJ grands. Not only would this be a straight swap but would be the easiest way.

the WJs use the tone rings at the axle ends for the ABS to calculate the speed - if you look at a WJ Transfer case tail housing it has the area the early cases have bored for the speed sensor but it is just blank.
