Widest Tire on Zj?
Hey guys, new here, I just picked up a 96 Laredo (5.2) to replace my built up, all motor ford focus for the winter months..
It has the 15" wheel's and since I dont have the money for a lift or anything at the moment, Id like to atleast upgrade the tires to a more aggressive and slightly larger if possible size. The stock ones are pretty worn and the front left barely holds air so its definitly time for new ones. Im looking at the Dunlop Mud Rovers because there both cheap, and pretty aggressive. Just wondering if I could fit maybe a 245/75-15 or maybe wider/taller? current tires are 225/70-15's (not original though) Thanks, Shawn

I had 30x9.5" BFG AT's on a stock UC ZJ and it was very nice. Can't put much more under a stock ZJ

Well now that ive been looking around for a while, If I went with these-
http://www.kevinsoffroad.com/acos.html Set to max height, I could fit a 31x10.50" tire with no rub, correct? If not how big could I go, and how will this affect my gearing, since im running the stock gears.. Also, should I add wheel wideners if I go with a 10.5" wide tire? Thanks again, Shawn |

You can run a 31 with a lot cheaper coil spring spacer lift called a BB from Kevins rather than the acos.
You'll want to upgrade your wheels to aftermarket ones with 3.75 to 4 inches of backspacing to prevent tire rub on the inside of the wheelwell. Hunter

Ok so with the BB, and some 31x10.50's ill be good, but how will my gearing suffer, or will it not be too noticible with the 5.2L.. Also, can I just buy some wheel wideners as I dont want to upgrade wheels, stock look good, and I dont have the money for new wheels. (saving money to turbo my other car)

Buy a set of Black Steel wheels for your Jeep. They are very cheap, (we bought a set of 5 for my girlfriends TJ for 150 shipped) they look good and you can get proper backspacing that way. There are a lot of guys on here running them, I'm sure someone can help me out with a pic of a 2 inch BB on a ZJ with Black Steelies.
Gearing you should be fine, your speedo won't be right anymore though. |

You can usually find a wheel and tire combo from www.ntwonline.com, www.4wheelparts.com, www.desertrat.com for cheaper than you can find 4 new tires out in town.
