You can always add a 5.9 with 60 or 100 or more horsepower to any V8 Grand with very few additional parts. I did. It was very worth it.

Where did you get yours? The best bang for the buck ones I've found have been the Precision Engine ones.

I can't verify this but I have read that it was stronger in some way.
Admittedly, the only 249 I've disassembled was from my 5.9, but both shafts were similar to the standard 27-spline 242s & 231s I had torn into. The chain was wider on the 249, but I don't know how it compares to other 249s. One thing I've learned in custom building my 242 is that they were constantly improving the cases without changing model numbers. Even subtle differences in chain design, so I'm not saying that they aren't special in some way, just that there's nothing special about the input or output shafts.

the rear driveshaft uses 1330 or 1350 joints, i forget which, but i know they're bigger than the 1310 joints a normal zj uses.
It certainly did not have 6 planetary gears. My 242 does though! ;-)

Here is a quote from a fellow from expedition portal about the 249
I'm just saying it's a bigger PITA then it's worth. If you blow a tire on the trail, you need to replace all 5 in order to keep the VC happy. Or shave the new tire down to match the old tires, either way, PITA.

If I ever buy a 9er, first thing I'll do would be rip the grille out and put a normal painted grille. I think the 9er grilles are hideous looking. I'd put it on here to sell. I'm not real fond of the hood louvers either. Looks like they belong on a ricer, but I'd prolly leave em tho. At least for a while.

If you took the louvers off there would be a bunch of holes in the hood. Better not waste your time with one.

or put a non vented hood on it to keep all that heat from escaping!

.....maybe throw some 93 zj 15" alloys on it, exhaust from a 4.0, rip off the rocker covers......

Liked it so much I have 2 now and my 5.2 , well , I made it into a look alike .
Lets not get carried away...It's not doing anywhere close to 150.

150 is absolutely possible in these. I've had mine up to around 110 and there was plenty of motor left. Go check out speedfreaks...those guys are doing that plus some...

You are more than welcome to come for a visit . If it doesn't do 150 , I will pay for your flight . I have been there and not exaggerating , I never do !

Was I surprised , yes , but , it is a fact . And no , I'm not going to do it again and take a pic of my speedo which hits 140 and I buried it . Trying my jeep at that speed was crazy enough , but to take a pics or carry a passenger to do so is worse again .

I meant replacing the whole hood. I would do an aftermarket or custom hood with some sort of mild scoop or cowl induction.

I probably wouldn't buy one anyhow. I'd rather not take a rare-ish vehicle and change it. I'd rather just drop a built 360 or stroker in place of my 5.2 and either mod or replace the trans.

Taking a 9er and changing what I don't like about them would be like taking a chevelle ss 396 and changing it to look like a 350 malibu.

110 and 150 is a HUGE difference. It doesn't do 150...i don't care what your speedo says, they are terribly inaccurate.

You couldn't pay me to take a jeep over 100 on a public road...lol
