Why doesn't anbody run 10" rims??

Whay doesn't anyone run 10" rims but is willing to run spacers????

I get it if you are crawling and want to air down
but i had 32x11.50s on 10s and they sat for 6 years untouched with vehilce weight on them and all had 25psi stil in them.
haha one tire had 8 plugs in it too!!!
i'll be running 31or 32 x 11.50s on 10" rims on mine with 4" of lift
there seems to be the problem with alot of people rubbing control arms and thats why they put spacers on that nearly cost the price of steelies new??
just seems strange to me

Hey man, I run 15 x 10 ultra nomads on my 98 zj. No rubbing here. A little hammer to the metal seem inside the fender, a knife to the plastic front bumper and we're all good. Had 33 x 10.50 boggers which looked really wide from their flat style tread. Now have 32x11.50 maxxis bighorns which I kept off my Cherokee when I sold it. They run/ride great to me.

I know they look good but you were the only other person running them! That's kinda what spurred the thread.

Try airing down an 11.50 or 12.50 wide tire on a 10" wide rim, it cant be done. Spacers widen the stance and move the rim out while adding no more stress than a backspaced rim does.

Well, I've never understood why myself...especially guys that want to run 12.50's and up.....seems you should always go with a 10" rim to me. Plus personally I want the wider stance look. The wider rim really fattens the tire out and gives it the look I like. But I also realize with some, it's a money thing, and it's also a clearance issue of the fender wells. But if you order a 10" rim with the same back spacing that clears the 8" rim, you got no issues. So not really sure what most think when making their decision...

Oh it for sure can...I have done it, several times. I will say that I think alot depends on the tire you run also in being able to do that. But, I've run the boggers at 12psi before...no problem....have now run my BigHorns down at 12psi...no problem.....

Some tires just aren't created equal....just like some jeeps

I wrote that wrong, it can be done but you have a greater chance of blowing a bead or having the tires spin on the rim while aired down.

if its a street jeep and you barley ever wheel it, and you like that look, go ahead you won't have any issues.

and the width of the rim assuming it has the correct wheel spacing wouldn't affect clearance assuming you are still running the same width tire.

i guess it goes for location then. i wheel the piss out of my zj during huntin season and it spends alot of time in hatteras sugar sand in the summers. i can honestly say i have ever had the need to air down except when i buried on the beach when i broke my front half shafts (yes both)
but its terrain relative. we dont have rocks but we do have rutted out steep logging trails.
so i think its a pretty bold statement to say:

"if its a street jeep and you barley ever wheel it, and you like that look, go ahead you won't have any issues."
i wouldn't run 10.50s on a 10" rim

there are so many different factors, it depends on the tire, air pressure and where you wheel it.

so a general statement its not a great idea. but if you never air down go for it.

i am also not sure why you are comparing wheel spacers to wheel width?

I guess i just missed the purpose of this thread then.

While we are on this my friend is selling his soft8s or d window cragars can remember which ones. They are off his xj will they fit my zj. they are 15x8s with 31x10.50s

00 WJ Zone4in Clayton longarms and linked rearD30/D35 4.88s 33s locked

a 10" rim with 4" of bs centers the tire 1" farther out than an 8" rim with 4" of bs, kinda relates to spending 180$ on spacers vs. 200$ on properly backspaced rims

I ran them on my old 5.9 but they were wide and rubbed cause they were, I ran 31812.5 boggers on em. But I love them for my wheelin rig, gives it some extra with and they are wrapped with 36x12.5 tsls and work great

94 zl 5.2, np242, d30, trussed, ujoint shafts, all 1\4" wall dom steering, 8.8 trac-loc, disk, custom front/rear bumpers, custom paint, k&n cai, tb spacer, gibson sidepipes. etc etc..

i run 36-13.50 on 8" wheels, can go down to 8psi all weekend, no issues.
