I've been reading all over the internet about the WJ brake upgrade for the ZJ. One thing I have not really answered in concrete is what size wheels will work ? Will stock 15" wheels work ? I read on a cherokee forum that stock 15x7 wheels will fit. It was not clear if they are steel ones only, used with spacers, calipers grounded down ?? Jumping up to 16 or 17" wheels will really jump up the total cost of the upgrade..
2 other things I have not figured out yet..
Using 91 cherokee hubs will eliminate the need for the spacers ?
Can I make the stock ABS sensor work in the WJ knuckle ? How ?
I was thinking 17" wranglers.. according to my research, they have 6.25" backspacing. So, with 1.25" wheel adapters, that will put me at 5" of backspacing. ZJ stock 15" at 5.25" BS. Thats pretty close..
Tj canyons have MORE backspace than ZJ canyons. ZJ canyons are 15x7 5" BS, TJ canyons are 15x8 5.5" BS.
There are two versions of the calipers for WJ's, the smaller teves calipers that were recalled, and the larger akebono calipers. I've not seen anyone get 15" stock alloys using the akebono's.
Second one works. Interesting that he got it to work just grinding the caliper. Little close for my taste though, 17's are a safe bet, and JK stock stuff is plentiful.
FYI for anyone reading, just did this and the Akebono calipers fit in the stock 15" wheels ('95 limited style) with a good amount of grinding. No wheel spacers or anything.
