wheeling techniques

i know this isn't quite wj / zj oriented but it could benefit their user's.

i'd love to hear form you senior , experienced and very helpful members some of your best wheeling techniques. the do's and dont's . the how to's and tricks that come with experience , mistakes and time .

like .. how to get yourself out of a muddy rut when you've given in all hope. Or how to approach and enter a body of water. cross an off camber, slick ridge or how to navigate an array of rocks like a pro

i'll start off. tonight while high centered with my right and left side wheels buried into watery rut's and my t case gaurd resting on the high area between i used cutting left and right while rocking ( brutal rocking ... i appologize transmission ) to get one wheel up and out of the rut, gaining me the ground clearance i desperatley needed .

also used my braces here and there lightly to keep her going straight and to " build " engine torque by offering a force for the engine to work against.

Scuba Driving 101, water is evil! when in doubt, stay out. Let that little TJ go first. especially when you just past some boy with 44" on going the other way.

I just go full speed through ruts and water/mud holes. It's fun splashing up that water or spraying and praying for that mud slinging. Not what an experienced off roader would do but very fun on occasion, I'm sure of it.

Seriously though. One thing I did learn this past off road day was when approaching a sharp decline to have the baby in 4LO in 2nd gear, just cause ya got a 6" lift doesn't mean ya ain't gonna bottom out.

when in sand or mud make sure you keep momentum. if you stop or slow way down your basically doomed. cutting the wheel all over the place works too. if you find yourself spinning in anything, with all 4, but your still moving, dont let off throttle or give it more, just keep moving. know what parts of your vehicle hang low, drive to avoid dragging them. crossing water if you have to make sure its not too deep. over the hood is never good, and its always better to dip your nose in slowly and then when it picks back up to apply throttle rather than diving in.

I learned a physics lesson in the Jeep. I learned water in a cylinder does not compress like gas and air. The 500$ answer for me was, Water does not compress.
500$ And I Rebuilt the motor my self. I am a proud US Vet

Just want to add Snow to your first part. Good to keep momentum in that too.
