Wheel Hub Bearing/Axle Shaft Questions

I have read and researched some front end issues I am having on my 5.9 ZJ and I *think* I have come to the conclusion that I need to replace the wheel hub bearings up front. I have some serious play when grabbing the wheel at 12 and 6 and can actually see the movement at the wheel side of the CV Boot. I'm a believer in upgrading stuff when it breaks and would like to know what to get and where for replacing these. I am going to do both, just to get it over with. Also, while I am in there, what is a good shaft upgrade?

I have been chasing this front noise for awhile and along the way have found other issues (uca bushings that were shot, bad track bar, etc.) Jeep has OME HD springs, Bilsteins, JKS lca/uca's/track bars/QD's , Addco sways. I have new TRE's that need to go on, but found this hub play while looking for something else.

Any info is greatly appreciated. This forum never fails on good info!

Look for the u joint conversion

Some info
Other then some alloy shafts and some "super" u joints, the best shafts would come from stock 96+ xjs
Older xjs had smaller u joints in the shafts, however you could swap in the bigger new style ones.

This should get you going

...thanks.

as far as I can tell, there is no play in the ball joints. I did not take the wheel off during my first round of "research" to check the axle shaft nut. I do get the vibration/humming up front when driving on smooth highways at 65-70. Now, the Jeep does need an alignment ..however, I am not doing that until the TRE's are done..I am getting some outer edge wear on the tires, especially the right side.

Unless you actually wheel the rig hard then its pointless not to go with stock replacement CV axle shafts. Not only will they provide smoother ride they are MUCH cheaper than aftermarket alloy shafts.
