What is the widest tire I could fit on these rims?
I have the stock 1996 deep 5 star type rims.. Heres a pic of one..http://oewheels.net/9014-s.jpg I think they are 7 inches wide... I have 245's 75s on the rims right now.. I want to go to a wider tire but am afraid that this is as wide as I can go.. I am most likely getting the BFG AT 30x9.5x15s but notice they make a 325/60/15.. Would these fit these rims? Would they rub? When I turn I mean.. They would be less balloony than the 75s seeing how they are 60's... I just want a wide tire with some nice grip on them.. I don't do serious off roading and don't intend on doing any...
Mind you also that my jeep is stock.. NO lift what so ever.. Before this winter I will be doing the 3 inch budget boost though... I found that for every 25.4 mm is one inch.. so my tires I have now are 9.6 inches wide.. The 325s would be 12.7 wide.. Not sure again if I could go 3 inches wider on 7 inch rims? Can anyone let me know if I can and will it look funny? Thanks Spankey

Spankey,
the 3 inch BB is a bad idea. The springs wont have any post to hang onto. Get the 2 inch or do the Front to Rear Spring swap. (You put your front springs on the rear and purchase new 3.5 springs for 160 or so and off you go. Oh yeah, you're going to need new shocks with the BB. Most don't do it right away but, your stock shocks will be extended two inches at the suspension midpoint. So, you'll have less travel up and be limited on your full suspension flex by the shortened length causing premature wear. Hunter

Yeah and it looks like I jumped the gun at the wide tire post.. I read up that someone has the 265's revos that rub thier shocks and fender wells.. SO I am NOT going any wider than the 245s I have now.. I will most likely up for the 30x9.5s... I think my stock tire was a 225... So the 30 inchers is going to be my best bang for the buck.. Plus at my discount I get seeing how my mother works at a tire outfit.. I can get the 30x9.5x15s mounted and balanced for $98.oo a tire... From what I hear its a good deal....
Thanks again for the reply.. I might just end up doing an entire lift when money allows... Is it hard to do a full suspension lift yourself without a car lift.... I mean I have a jack and jack stands and what not just not a full access to a lift.... Spankey |

You'll need just a little more than a jack and stands. A lift always helps.
98 bucks inst bad at all. However, I got my POS 33s for 92. Savero GT Radial MTs. Some Australian brand of tire that Kramer Goodyear in Chesapeake Va had on sale. I couldn't resist them. Hunter
