What transmission do i have?

I have a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with full time 4wd. I am having problems with the transmission, if i put it in reverse it does nothing if put it in neutral it acts if it is in drive.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Without knowing your engine there is a very small chance you've got an aw4 but more than likely its the 42re if you have a 4.0 or 46rh if you have the 5.2. Your problem probably lies in your shift linkage though.

Luckily it doesn't matter what trans he has. The only way to get any of them to do that is for the linkage to be out of adjustment.

Just so you GUys can know if you have a question like .. What trans do I have . or what anything else. You can go by the service office of your local Jeep dealer & give them your Complete VIN. no. & Ask them to print you a Options sheet. It'll print you off everything you ever wondered about your jeep.
... While you there ask then to check & see if your Jeep has any recalls on it.
