Later 4.0's have 42re's. Some earlier 4.0's had AX-15's...? (I may have said that wrong someone correct me) They were 5 speeds. Is your bad Trans a auto?

I'm pretty sure that only applies to the 5.2L (46RH in 93-95, 44RE in 96-98). I do believe the 4.0 always had the 42RE behind it (except VERY early 93, some had the bulletproof AW4 auto).

94 to 98 zjs with the 4L have the 42re any one will work. All the same.

A 42re from a 6 will not work with a V8

Don't fotget about the Torqueflight Output Shaft in the 94. This was Specific to JUST THE 1994. YOU WILL NEED that Output shaft, OR the Transfer case as well from the Donor Vehicle.

Course, you Could just take them both to a shop and have them switch out the Output Shafts...

***There is a post in my Build thread below about this...***

Off topic, but what was the reasoning for taking out the good ol aw4 for the 42re? Just new tech?
