what is a torque converter?

i saw an add that said this jeep had a lockup torque converter. is this a modification to increase torque? if so, where do i find one and how much is average price for one.

A tq convertor is the same thing as a clutch to a manual tranny. It's the power connector between the engine and auto tranny.

so all cars with auto tranny has one? i saw a car in an ad that said it has a torque converter, was he talking about a performance upgrade?

IN a car a stall converter will be a performance upgrade.. A torque converter is standard..
Just for your info.. The Grand cherokee has a lock up converter.. That is what that little shift is once you settle at highway speed..
It locks the converter to allow you better gas mileage..
Not that big a deal... Do a google search on torque converter info
if you want to know more..
You can buy a better torque converter. Check out Quadratec.. I believe they have them..

torque converter

a torque converter is a fluid impeller which converts fluid motion (tranny fluid) from the engine to mechanical motion to the transmission and wheels by means of the tranny fluid spinning the blades on the torque converter. go read The Way Things Work .
