What size tire will fit in the spare tire well?

If I upgrade to 265-70-16 or 265-75-16 tires, will I be able to fit a fifth one in the spare well? This is on a 99 WJ BTW.

Thanks,
Seth

Off the top of my head, I say no, it won't fit.
The 245/65-17 tires on my '01 are about 29.5" in diameter, and just fit snugly into the compartment. The 265/70-16 are about 30.6", which I believe is too large, but measure the opening. If by chance it did fit, width of the tire is much larger also, so it would hold the door up from the floor.

I know it's been discussed previously, but just not certain of the answer.

Actually I may be mistaken...245/75R16 is the largest tire you can fit in there, the 265/70R16 I think you could get in, but the cover will not close all the way...

Also depends if its a MT or AT...a MT probably wont work being that they tend to be taller.

You can put a 44" bogger in it with minor trimming.

How much trimming are we talking about? I think I would have to "trim" the back seats out just to fit a 44" tire in the back!

a 265/75/16 tire will not fit in the spare tire well, even if you get mad and sit on it to make it fit. if you deflate it you can sorta wedge it on, but then you need to carry a compressor or pump
