What size are freeze plugs for a 97' 5.2?

Hello All,

Anyone know the correct size freeze plugs are fitted to my engine? (5.2 1997 GC TSi). My block heater keeps leaking and since the weather here is very mild, I will never need to use it so the easiest option is to fit a normal freeze plug instead. The Auto shop gave me a 1" and 5/8ths but were not sure if it was the 'right' size!

The correct size for my Jeep if anyone is interested is 1" 5/8ths. The part supplied was the correct size. I managed to remove the faulty/leaking freeze plug heater and replace it with a normal freeze plug. Awkward job but persivearance worked in the end, all's well now hopefuly.... hope this helps someone in the future. Have pictures of the faulty heater plug should anyone be interested - send me a message with your email address and I'll forward the pictures.

never had to do it to my 5.2. Why did they leak in the first place? Did your have freeze damage to your engine?

looks like a poor quality freeze plug heater, it leaked around the screw and element housing. Only solution was to fit a new one or replace it with a freeze plug. Since our climate is so mild here, I went for easier $1 freeze plug!
