What should a used WJ Cost?

Guys, I have been looking at WJ's for months now and I see some really different pricing, its making me crazy. I am looking for one under 45,000 miles (actually under 40 would be great). I want a Laredo with either motor (rather the 6 but a good deal on the 8 wont stop me). Within reason, what should I be paying for one of these vehicles? I live in the salt belt if that makes a difference...

Thanks,
CB

Why do you prefer the I6?

As far as the motor goes, I have had family and friends over the years tell me that there old jeeps with the I6 were bullet proof. So, since then, I have wanted a jeep with the I6. I know I know, the V8 is better, and faster, and fuel economy is the same. That's why I said, if it had an 8 it would break the deal.

I see some real big fluctuations in price between vehicles, more so than other vehicles I have bought in the past. Is this common with jeeps, maybe due to some of them being "abused"? I guess I will just do some more research...

Prices do fluctuate quite a bit. Almost 3 years ago I was looking at an '01 Laredo 4.7. Perfect body and interior, but the heated seats didn't work and top of the steering wheel was shot. Other that that, new tires, brakes, ran great 78K miles and the dealer was asking $11900. Good price, but more than I wanted to spend. I kept looking, but couldn't find anything that appealed to me in the price range I was seeking. On a Sunday night I noticed that the dealer lowered the price to $9900. Drove down Monday morning, waited for him to open and purchased the Jeep which I still have. He didn't give a warranty at that price, so I purchased a 1 year extended warranty for $700. Only vehicle I never needed to use the warranty.
Good Luck

^^^Good to know...

I guess I just was looking to see what kind of prices I might expect to haggle someone down to... Here is a link to the vehicle I am interested in. (it has a factory sunroof that you can't see in the pics) I was thinking 12,500 OTD with new tires? Is that unreasonable? It has been on there lot for a few months...

I would have to say go get it. Looks good to me and 12,500 would be a good offer I think. I paid 8500 for an 02 with 96000 miles a year ago and KBB said it was worth 13000. I like the I6 also. Not alot of power but they are almost problem free. Mine gets about 16-17 mpg and I had a Dakota with the 4.7 and it got 12-13 mpg.

It really all depends on What you want...
The market is very soft right now... Drive by the Dealerships and see all the Used Cars (Espesialy SUVs) stacked up if you don't believe me.

If you want a 01 -04 Laredo with an I-6 and a Select Track T-Case you can find one for $7,000 - $11,000

They are not Selling for anywhere close to KBB, EDMUNDS, NADA prices, At least in the Western states... I had my 04 Laredo up for sale listed on all of the big Trader publications etc in Arizona & California Listed @ $13,200 that's $2500 below NADA and I got ZERO calls on it. No I'm not trying to solicit a buyer, I decided to keep it and put a lift on it.

Anyhow I gave up and pulled the AD when I saw people dumping 04 Limiteds w/ < 40K for $13,000. I am not desperate to sell it especialy for $5,000 less than it should be worth. I guess that 08 Unlimited Rubicon is going to have to wait another year or two.

Just a thought... It may be worth your trouble to look for one in over here in the Western US (No Rust). They are practically giving them away here... IF I didn't already have 2 of them I'd be looking at buying one.

One other thought is the 08 Price books come out in a few days... The dealers are all sitting on an invetory that is going to take a huge hit in value. This weekend is a good time to get a good Deal. Find one you like, Then look up the Wholesale Price on KBB and Offer them $500 below that.
