Hey all. I have my 97 limited that has had death wobble since owning it. I have been told by numerous people that my shocks will fix this. Myne are badly shot anyway so even if it doesn't fix my wobble they need replaced anyway. My question is what shocks should I get?? My jeep is all stock and I plan to keep it stock. I just want some decent shocks, no low end junk ones. Give me some ideas and I plan to replace them myself so let me know from anyones experiance what I should do, thanks.

Email Nick at Kolak@aol.com and ask him about shocks. He carries a lot of brands.

Shocks have nothing to do with death wobble. Shocks damp out vibration in the vertical direction. Steering stablizer damps out vibration in the steering system.
Bilsteins provide a great ride. Rancho 5000's are a decent budget shock. Rancho 9000 XL's are adjustable and will work for virtually any applications (but they cost $$).

Thanks for the input. The guy at advance recomended the monroe sensatrac as well. And I have heard now from like 30 people and 10 from personal experiance that after changing shocks it rid them of the death wobble. So myne need replaced as stated, makes no difference for me. Also I really am looking into the Bilsteins, just don't know if I want to spend that money. They are an extra $20 a shock which isn't to bad but adds up. If not I will go with monroe. Once again thanks everyone appreciate the help..

you know 30 people with jeeps and 10 that fixed DW with shocks?
thats staggering.
best bet, crawl underneith your vehicle. get someone to turn your wheel back and forth quickly... look VERY closely at your track bar mounts, both axle end and frame end. look for any play what so ever. i bet your track bar is shot. replce it. also look for play in your ball joints and wheel bearings. to do this jack up the vehicle and grb the wheel at 9-3 and 6-12. there should be no play what so ever. if so, somethings screwed.
good luck
don't bother with your steering stabilizer. lots of people will tell you thats the issue too.

Shocks are not the cause but they can add to the DW. You can't go wrong with the Bilsteins. I have the 5100's and they ride great. Plus they are high end and make you feel like leaning out the window and asking people for Grey Poupon at lights.

The Bilsteins are a high pressure monotube design. This type of shock offers the best handing, ride control, fade resistance and most rapid responsiveness of any shock type.
I have Bilsteins on special right now so send me a PM and I'll get back to you with the scoop. Free shipping in the USA too.

I find myself hitting bumps with no braking that everyone has to slowdown for with the Bilsteins. They eat it up like it wasn't there.

Kolak, I've had a blown right front shock for a while now. I've been looking at the Bilsteins but I've held off buying a new set until I install my 2 inch BB (in the next few months.) If I order the extended length shocks now and put them on, will there be any issues running them for a few months until the BB is put in (longer shock wearing-in at current (stock) height and then changing the established travel once the BB goes in?)

You can ruin your new shocks like that. They will bottom out. Better wait and either put the BB in and then put the correct shocks on.

I have held off getting new ones for so long thinking it would ruin them but I am also getting tired of the blown shock squeaking over every bump in the road. The BB install is not too far away so I guess I will just continue to deal with it for now.

Just go to the JY and get another shock until you can get the BB on.
