What Is The Largest Tire (spare tire) Location?

What is the largest tire that will fit in the rear interior spare tire location?

has anyone been able to fit a 30/9.5 or maybe a 31/10.5 in that spot?

at what point do you need to have a Safari Rack or a Tire Gate for the spare?

It's been pointed out to me that some have stored a 33" in stock location... you should be just fine.

I was just reading a thread where someone fit a 33" tire. But he had to deflate it, and was using a strap to hold it in place. Because the factory hold down didn't work anymore. He was also rubbing on the hatch inner panel.

I'm wondering how big will work without being deflated and using the factory spare mount and hardware.

31's are fine with stock hardware.

Some of the spare mounts have a bend in the bolt, others don't. You want one that has the bend.

I think you could get a 33 in stock inflated, depends on the 33.

Inflated 32" fits fine, but I put in a longer bent threaded rod to make it easier to mount.

33" fits no problem.

ik made an extension off the stock mounting point, and even reused the factory threaded bolt/plasting washer/nut thing

It depends on your backspacing of the wheels too. If you're running stock wheels, you should have no problems going to at least a 31. With my 31s and my 4" of backspacing on my 15x8 wheels, I had to lengthen the mounting post with some all-thread and a connecting nut. it works but the wheel is mounted backwards from how the stock wheel mounts to get it to properly sit there without moving. Keep the backspacing of the wheels in mind...

shhhhh!!!
thats my secret weapon...... an aussie locker in a box!
don't you know, that if you carry it around with you the lunchbox locker fairies will magically lock the front end for you? forgot to take the locker box out of the jeep from when i intalled it. been that long since i've driven it.

frankly when my jeep makes it out of the garage i'm impressed.
