what to do with exhaust

ok, i went wheeling and i scraped up my cat, and muffler. i want to tuck it up by a few inches. i notice i have about 3 inches between the cat and the heat shielding, it is ok if i tuck up the cat and muffler so that it is more like 1/2" away from the shielding? also, is there like a super thin muffler i can get to also help with this?

I got an 'offroad' exhaust or trail rated as my girlfriend put it, thanks to some rocks in George Washington national forest, and to be honest with you Its about 4in closer up, the hangers are all bent to **** the rubber is still good, but man it rubs and vibes and drives me freakin crazy!

but i bet the flowmasters are narrower top to bottom then stock and if you cut and reweld the hangers then make an extra bend in the tail pipe at the bumper it would work great

im not 100 shure what im gona do, i have acess to a welder, so i may cut ome bends out of my exhaust and bing the cat and muff closer to the heat shield, but im not shure if this is safe.

safe as in like, crating exess heat on the floor of the inside of the jeep, it allready gets fairly warm there now.

i am also thinking of making a complete bolt and unbolt system for my cat and muffler, so i can unbolt my muff, and rebolt in a straight pipe in its plave, and do the same for the cat.

I just used rocks to push the mufler up higher.

The cat never did get hit much at all.

The only thing that didn't survive is the tail pipe. It got crunched pretty good.

After the stock exaust I got Kolaks exaust with a Flow Master 50 & Car Sound cat. That mufler was tougher. It did't bend nearly as much. When I had the exaust put on I had the shop guys leave the new Stainess tail pipe loose so I could remove it for wheeling. I use a big 4" long stainless steel exaust clamp I got from Sumit to attatch it.

Also Magna flows are very tough. Quite a few people here have them. Sounds really nice with a turn down.

BTW, I have never really heard of anyone raising the mufler & cat up higher than they are. With A good skid plate you should only really hit the mufler. Not the cat.

Now with my TnT long arm & the belly pan that comes with it, the exaust will never touch a rock. The only thing I don't like about it is they had to use a round skinny mufler that would fit abouve the belly pan of which I don't know the make. It's probably louder than a Super 40 Flow Master.
