i think that is where the light is. when you lift it up so you can see in the dark or something but it sucks royally. at least mine does.

Light goes there, the connection had basically disintegrated on my old ZJ. I tried to figure out why it wasn't turning on, pulled the connection apart and a clump of corroded metal fell to the ground.

X5 on the light. Probably was disconnected if the switch got screwed up like mine, which doesn't shut off when the hood is closed.

I did not even get one of those in the WJ. Chrysler was looking to shave a few dollars off of the WJ I guess. When doing any real work, you have to bring in a real light anyway. It is nice at night to have a little light just to check something quickly.

The light works via an inbuilt mercury switch and they do cause flat battery problems by not turning off. john.n

Yeah. I killed a few batteries (luckily replaced under warranty) until I noticed the darn light was still on when the hood was closed.

Earlier models did, it was probably optional though. My WJ has every available option except for the 10 cd-changer.

I have the changer but no hood light. Mine did not come with a cargo cover or roof rack rails. I have since added the rails. I would not mind buying the cargo cover some day also.

Got to add that the light is as good as useless anyway. Anyone thinking of adding 1 would be better of buying a flashlight and keeping it in the glove box! john.n
