I read on MC that it will fit, but you'll have to grind down one of the bolt sleeves.

I've also got the 4.0, and my buildsheet says 117amp.

I must test this. And also upgrade, regardless, because I demand a flexible electrical system that can put up with anything I plan to add to it. (More power sockets, light bar, sound system, et cetera)

Me too, never looked into it more than that though.

The 98 5.9 has a higher amp alt.

Sitting in the left-hand turn lane last night waiting for the light to change when, for some reason, I glanced in the sideview mirror and noticed there was no reflection of my turn signal in the vehicle's bumper behind me. Not sure why I noticed it, just one of those 6th sense things I guess. Strangly, the blinkers weren't flashing fast (outage mode of the flasher to alert the driver of a bad bulb) nor did the vic indicate an issue.

Today, I pulled the drivers rear lens to change the bulb and noticed a few wires (black, brown and yellow) that were very cheesily spliced into the brake, marker and turn wires of the factory harness. The po had pulled the taillight harness groumet half way out of it's oval hole and snaked the three wires inbetween the groumet and the sharp edges of the hole into the rear hatch area. I assume they go to an aftermarket trailer brake box but did not have the time to look at it just then. I replaced the bad bulb and made it a point to check into it when I have more time.

I would imagine a factory installed tow package would have been plugged into the tailight harness much more cleanly than this was. I also wonder why the flash rate did not increase when the bulb went out. Maybe I have a heavy-duty flasher installed and don't know it. That would be great actually because my 94 needs one to correct the fast-flash as a result of the parking light mod. I will try swapping them tomorrow.

I was just saying it's either unusal that his '96 came with a different amp alt than another from the factory. Or wondering if he'd replaced his with a lower amp alt (why??) I'm not really planning on screwing with the efan mod until I can figure out these other electrical gremlins I have, plus a few other upgrades in the way first.

I know. They have the 150 I believe. Like I said, I was wondering if the 117 amp was unusal, or if the 90 he said was the odd duck.

The 90 amp alternator is what's found on most ZJs. Some had a 117, some had a 136, and the Niner had a 150. I purchased a 136 amp brand new for a pretty decent price. It solved most of my voltage drop issues with music. Why Chrysler would use a 90 amp alternator with a 5.2 L is beyond me.

Same here, I like my music to sound good, and loud. Need aux lighting for something's. And I want to add a power inverter, but I think if I do that I'll get 2 deep cycle battery's and charge them off of a solar panel for camping trips. Im going to have 2 or 4, havnt decided yet, 100 watt lights, a winch, and my system, the tunes won't be playing when I'm using the other stuff though.

Most early ZJs had a 90 or a 117, generally 4.0s got the 90, 5.2s got the 117. 96+ tended to get bigger alternators, most 4.0s had 117s, I think, 5.2s often had 136. 5.9s all had 150s stock. I'm not sure if any ZJ 4.0s snuck out with 136s, but every WJ 4.0 I've seen has one (if you take one from a 99 - 00 WJ, it should swap right into a ZJ, IIRC).

I might have to look into that more. Thanks for the info.

I definitely had a 90 amp on my 97 5.2. I double checked part numbers to confirm. I don't remember the numbers off the top of my head though. Also, I may have thumbs downed your post trying to quote it from my phone. Sorry if I did.
