Don't let these guys rag on ya. Nothing illegal there as long as you still have front blinkers. Most all old cars only have front and rear markers, not side. Safety wise, you have lost some safety, but if someone can't see a 16 ft truck with headlights in front of them, they prolly aren't gonna see the little side lights anyway. Couple years ago taillight covers that were painted and just had circles were all the rage.

Actually by law all factory side markers have to work.

The side isn't really about the lights, it's about the reflectors that reflect your headlights back at you. They are very effective at that too.

I agree on the lights. Tinting them is one thing. Painting them is totally different. The rear looks like **** and is unsafe.

Yet tint would make them not reflect

No disrespect but these are $3-4000 vehicles, this isn't a viper forum. Most everybody on her is a low budget jeep guy trying to make their jeep stand out, or function the way they like. If you don't like it, don't do it to yours. If he likes it let him. My $.02

They should be able to reflect through tint. Though in most states tint is also illegal.

How? Tint blocks light transfer, for a reflector to work it has to transfer light in, and back out. Most of us have something illegal on our trucks, my dmax wheels hang out too far, and my windows are to dark. I don't drink and drive so the cops leave me alone. I like it this way, which is why I made it this way. Stupid maybe, but it's my truck not yours.

tint doesn't block all the light though so it should still reflect back out, at a reduced effectiveness but it still should.

I'm just talking technicalities here.

Try it. Put some %35 tint from Wally world on any reflective surface, easiest would be a trailers reflective tape, see how it works. I'm no expert but I would bet it won't do crap. Guys get by with tinted lights, like I have, because they are lights. My dmax has dark tinted led lights, and I was stopped to tell me my brake lights are stuck on by an idiot cop who couldn't figure out none off my other led brake lights were on until I hit the brakes. Anyway my point is that tinted, painted, replaced with something else, whatever you want to do is up to you, your budget, and what you can get away with. Personally I would never have painted my lights like he did, but thats his truck, and his choice.
