Yeah, mine don't look the best, but they're not horrible. I'll still probably have to replace them, but I'm going to wait and see. At least they're more accessible than the ones I'll have to replace before too long on my wife's Expedition.

In my case the wye pipe bolts to the manifold all needed to be cut. Three were "easy" w/ a Dremel wheel. The passenger side rear bolt required an index card w/ a list of profanity words, that had to be vocalized aloud in a cyclic and random pattern until the bolt was cut.

They were replaced w/ Mopar 4004 001AB Exhaust Tee Nuts and ultra-coated grade 8 McMaster-Carr 91286A213 bolts, 93827A225 nuts and 98180A130 washers.

Wow, mega bling. Very, very, very nice!

Double check the paint into the injector ports to verify if removal is required for proper operation.

Thanks, I plugged them when I painted. All clear. Also doing a backyard port on the TB. Need a few things from the hardware store to finish.
I did the shiny one on my 5.9.
Well. See how long I can keep it white.

Yeah, I actually replaced those a few months ago when I did the rear main. I got lucky because the passenger side ones came right out, but has to cut the driver side, which wasn't too bad.

Picked up a known good used 231 to install tonight. Has anyone done the swap 242>231 on a '96 4.0?

Will my stock rear driveshaft will be to long/short?

I'm seeing some people say they had to shorten the rear DS when swapping in a 231, but I'm pretty sure that's when coming from a 249 not a 242?

Will I be able to shift with the 231 shift tab and the 242 linkage and shift gate?

Seems to be hit or miss, I'm seeing some people say it shifted no problem, others saying to buy a new shift tab from a '93 ZJ that had the 231 and/or shorten the shift linkage rod by 1" and re-weld it?

Thanks in advance!

Garage
Buddy of mine a couple weekends back gave me a 5qt jug of 10w-30 unused cause he knew I used it and I guess the car they used to use it on they no longer have. So yesterday I snagged a 1qt to give me an even 6 and a filter. Weather pending I'll be changing not just my oil, but also the oil pan gasket and Rear main seal.

However, so far mother nature has a sense of humor...

Turned 229K

Nothing impressive in the way of mods but did turn 229,000 miles yesterday on the original engine, transmission, and transfer case. The VC is starting to stick so that will be the next major repair. Waiting for some decent weather to visit the JY and pick up a replacement fixed antennae to replace the current one. Someone got a little close to a tree on the trail.

Picked up a 242 from a 98 4.0. Verified it has a 97 build date and most importantly a speed sensor!

Ill be getting a full refund on the 05 case. It was an honest mistake it seems.

I also heard from Crown that I will be getting a refund on the defective chain that as well.

"Im sorry this took a while to get back to you but I was getting a lot of mixed information from Mopar on the chains for these vehicles. To make a long story short, it appears that the pitch of the link was changed (for reasons not known to me). One pitch is .500 and the other is .5033. Now that does not really sound like a lot, but if you do the math adding up every pitch, that comes out to almost 1/8! That sounds like what the problem may be."

This 242 only needs to get me by until I get the new chain and pop it into the rebuilt original 242 form my ZJ.

Actually it looks like most of my garage.

Got new wheels/tires

I picked up a set of 31x10.50 BFG All-Terrain KO's with over 50 percent tread left on a nice set of Ultra wheels... FIVE of them, mind you... for $275. The spare has never touched the ground except for rolling it around on the ground. No patches, no cuts... totally street use. SCORE!!!

I got home to put them on and got three of them done quickly... but the passenger rear is seized to the rotor. I tried lots of things, but nothing worked so far. Going to try the stab braking with loose lugs thing first, and if that doesn't work I'm going to stick a 10 foot 2x6 in behind it, let it stick out the opposite side of the vehicle, and hit the end of the board with a big sledge hammer. I should have plenty of room to give it a good whack that way.
