Yeah ok, but he has a clutch fan and he lives in Cali. No way in hell the failsafe works for more than a week!

Did you do it by yourself or did you get help? I did mine by myself including the hitch. That was fun. I couldn't get anyone to help me out that day. A folding chair worked well to keep things balanced on one side while I managed to get one side loosely secured.

OTOH, as long as I don't drive too inefficiently in general, beating on it whenever I need to accelerate doesn't seem to hurt the mileage much (if at all).
Hand calculated the Toyota... overhead console on the jeep. I haven't even made it through my first tank yet. It's down to 12.4 now anyway. Hah. Been harder on it.

Finally noticed today that the TV cable is saggin. Explains my random shifting. Hah.

And I towed a volvo.

The overhead is pretty much always wrong. Mine routinely reads several mpg higher than actual. Last tank, it said 14.5 when I filled up, IIRC. Actual mileage was 11.8.

I'm not surprised. To be totally fair I don't care haha. I'm getting about the same mileage as a slow 3.0 POS. Last time I filled up at empty it was 18 gallons though. Isn't it 23?

The tank is 23. Usually there's a gallon or 2 left when the gauge hits the bottom peg. Fuel light usually comes on at 4 - 6 gallons left.

My fuel light comes on just a whisker below 1/4 tank....

Mine was actually dead accurate this last time and almost right on last time. 278 miles, crammed right at 17 gallons into the tank(I cram in every penny I can). Overhead reads 16.3, hand calc is 16.35. Last tank was roughly 16.5, this one will probably be around 12 though(I've been a little too heavy on the skinny lately). Usually my overhead avg is pretty close to accurate

I'm not quite sure anyone other than us knows how to actually calculate mpg effectively. I'm always right around what you're posting for overhead vs hand calculation...

For those of you who don't know, the most effective way is to fill up, reset the trip, drive your regular routes, fill up again, take the mileage driven in that time and divide it by the amount of gas the second fill up took. Neither fill up should be topped off, preferably use the same pump at the same station to ensure accuracy between pump error, and ensure you have the correct speedometer gear for your tire size. If you stray from this, you're not going to get accurate calculations.
