The sidewall pressure isn't ideal pressure, it's max pressure with the tire at max weight load (and often the ideal pressure for max weight load, which you'll never be at). In my case, my A/Ts are rated to 44psi, snows to 47 and summers to 51, but none of them need anywhere near that much to perform properly and wear well.

the max is 50 psi to attain the full rating of 2,601 lb per tire

hankook recommends 80 % of max for regular driving so 38 is on the low side of that number

for airing down though but ive never been below 20 with them

Ah. That sounds like a ballpark recommendation on their part. Depending on the vehicle, the actual best pressure may be higher or lower.

Chalk it up anyway you want, but a chalk test is the only true way of doing it at home.

ive found 36 - 37 is comfortable in the summer it wears pretty good for a v/c zj and handles like a much smaller boat than it is but 38 or higher gets a little harsh
31 is downright plushy though

I ran mine at about 12 around a town once looking for a gas station with a working compressor to air up after a day of wheeling. It rose better than when it was stock. Lol.

Make a chalk line across the tread of your tire, drive a few feet, see where it's worn, adjust pressure accordingly and try again until wear is even.

lol it's all about how you word it. You didnt adjust the throttle valve, you afjusted the cable which changes internal transmission presure which changes your shift points. There now you know what you did lol. 30 second job turned into a 10 post conversation.

Started putting the intake back together and despite my best efforts I got some coolant in the lifter valley.

I see an oil change in my future. It's only a tiny bit that got through from the cracked heater hose while I was working, do I need to try to flush it out?

I'm also having the wrong kind of fun with the fact that my engine is a dodge engine not a jeep one, but thats a post for another day.
