No, and I have zapped myself and shorted a few radios doing it. That's why we have fuses. With that said, I always try and use a connector kit to install a radio. Scosche and Metra make wiring harnesses that plug into the factory wiring connector and let you wire standard head unit pigtails in without cutting the factory wiring. It's cleaner and leaves the wiring intact and therefore fully reversible. With that said, my ZJ didn't have its factory connector, so I just wired it direct.

If you're going from the factory head unit to an aftermarket unit, go and buy the wiring connector kit, it's like $8 at Walmart. You'll be glad you did.

I did the same thing, $9 filter. Hot air or not who cares, i highly doubt anyone will notice the 1-2 hp difference. Well worth it to move that ugly as hell canister up out of sight and harms way.

Just don't find the "$9 mod" worth it. Sucking in hot *** air right above the valve cover and exhaust manifold when the op was going to originally do the cowl snorkel mod. But then again, just my opinion and like a holes, we all gottem haha

The only place it makes a difference is at slow speeds or idling. When it's moving it's not sucking hot air. But then again, most off roading is at very slow speeds and those kinds of filters suck in way too much dust.

It does what I needed it to do, gets rid of the stock box. It honestly feels no different. And all the data I can read over ODBII says the same as before.

Hey man, just for future reference, the only filter i found that fits the cowl right is on summitracings sight. I have the link saved on my computer, i'll post it in a sec

Edit: It's a little pricey being only a filter, but it fits perfectly in the cowl. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/aid-700-430/overview/

I was going to do a cowl intake this past summer but couldn't find a suitable filter. Good find!

Helped a buddy clean out his garage and found the missing front skid plate for the zj. Is it worth finding bolts to mount it back up there?

Stock skids dont offer much protectection, they are thin and dont hold up well. They are better than nothing at all though.
