This is part of what causes the carrier & pinion bearings to wear quicker than a regular housing. I believe that is why he is in for the swap with fab work, which is easy if you know what to do. I would still go with a ford 8.8 swap.
I was thinking that could be the only difference is not having an aluminum case, so i can sorta see why he's doing that. Although if I could and was going to do that fab work I would most likely swap the 8.8 like what your saying. I'll probably just end up swapping a d44a to mine as a direct swap, but who knows I may never do that, my open 35 is okay for the 31s i run.

87-89/90 XJ's had the Dana 44 option.

Yes, no aluminum diff and the associated issues that come from it.

Really no different than swapping in an 8.8. And I don't have a c-clip axle.

The major advantage was I had a disc'd, geared and locked D44 from the old XJ. Bracket kit from FroBot Fab and had it welded up at Endless Mountain Fab. I did find a worn pinion bearing and had to rebuild it anyway.

in the past 3 days, I have:

-found/fixed my infamous "zj stall"
-added a new catalytic converter/ tailpipe to my exhaust (PO chopped off exhaust before cat, and added flowmaster with turndown)
- swapped in a 231 Tcase to replace the 249 that wouldnt take low range.

Now, to build a front bumper and get this Warn8274 on this thing

Lifted ZJ with stuff.

Omg a ZJ limo....I saw a f150 limo the other day...it had a bed at the end of it too and has at least 5 doors per side. PS, not sure what youre asking about. That looks like it just removed the cladding.

Anyone used Treadwright Pumas before? 30x9.5x15r is the size im looking at, likely in BFG casing.

I bet the owner would have given it away. I should have looked under it to see how they tied it together but we were on the road.
