Sweet! Glad to hear you didn't have to start over.

Do it man I goto a tech school for auto body and if this school is anything like my school then it will be worth it at my school all you Have to do is pay for the material (and nobody ever minded a $20 after a good job lol) it may take a little longer then a normal shop but my instructors don't let anything out the door that a guy who's been in the business for 25 yrs they see everything but for what it is you should take it might take longer then you would like but if your zj isn't your dd (mine is the only reason why it's only in the shop sometimes as opposed to full time shop vehicle) then you should be good just my 2 penny's

hey ZJ section! i usually lurk over with the CJ and YJ guys, but today i come to you for information on one of the series' of jeeps that i officially know jack s*** about.
there's a '93 with a 4.0 and an automatic on craigslist nearly on top of me, the owner wants $500 bucks for it
he says it doesnt start because of no battery, needs tie rod ends, and the Tcase is stuck in 2wd from "sitting".
i can jump it with cables off my truck to see if that's a load of it or not, and tie rod ends arent a new thing for me, but what worries me is the transfer case.
is it common, or at least not unheard of for a ZJ tcase to stick in 2wd? i have searched, but only come up with people having theirs stuck in 4x4.
thanks in advance guys.

You'd probably have to start by looking at the tcase linkage

I'm not a betting man, but I'd put my money on the transfer case shifter handle pivot shaft. They rust heavily if any drinks are spilled in them.
Both of my ZJs had this problem.
It takes about an hour to clean, grease, and reassemble the shifter, but mine can both be shifted with just your pinky now.

Called Red's Auto Electic in town and I can get a starter solenoid for $36.08 + tax. Much better than the $108 + tax for a starter around here.

Nothing to IT. but pulled out my lil MIG and a piece of scrap and started teaching myself to weld a bit in prep for the jcr bumper. First pass looked like nothing but slag, Hahaha, but after about 15 mins or so I managed a solid bead despite some feed issues. Now to find some consistency.

Replaced the fluid in both axles. According to my dad who owned the ZJ before me, he says it's been changed maybe once. Looks to me that the front oil was replaced before, the rear, never replaced. Somebody went nuts with the RTV gasket on the front, the rear looked like the gasket was straight from the factory..

When I popped off the rear cover...my god...the smell of that black sludge...I had to stop working and come back to it later it was awful.

Went relatively painlessly, no leaks no surprises as there usually is with my ZJ that got molested by a ****ty mechanic...

Gear oil smells like crap when it's new.... It's 10X worse when it's burnt....

Thanks!!
I thought it was way better than any of the dozen other places I had contemplated putting them.
Close to the wheel to limit distractions on the road or trail, and there's plenty of room for wires behind that area!!

I should have put the bottom row closer to the top row, then I could fit a 3rd row below them.
Oh well!! Not too hard to find that trim piece at the JY if I ever need the room for 2 more swiches.
