Could that be the reason why mine will randomly turn itself off on occasion?

Yup. Youul find a plastic nut on plastic threads down there. If mine acts up I kick the brake pedal I bit and it will work.

LOL!! I was just yesterday trying to explain to my wife how to operate the cruise control! After a few attempt's on my own to set it, she gave me one of her cross-eyed looks and said "You can drive it. ". I explained it works just fine when you get the hang of it. I got the "Cold Stare" She loves me(Jeep), she loves me .....when we get there, (wife!).
It worked perfectly the rest of the trip!!

My Jeep is the exact same way. I have to press it multiple times, sometimes hold it for an extra milisecond and eventually it'll turn on.

Pulled half the carpet out and found $3.55 in change, 12 ink pens, a digital recorder, 2 super balls, two make up things, half a cigarette butt, lots of candy, and the contents of one can of coke solidified to my floor pans. Pulling out the rest of the carpet tomorrow, who knows what I'll find.

Installed 3 hockey pucks per side in the front as bump stops. I sanded, cleaned everything with denatured alcohol, put a layer of epoxy in between each and then put a socket on top and jacked it up to make contact with the factory bump stop to hold everything in place to cure.

I drove up to Kalamazoo with my Nitro to pick up my JCR stage 3 sliders for my ZJ today. They're currently outside drying. I've already primed them and applied the first top coat to one side. This is going to be a couple day painting project for me with the time I have allotted to me to do projects.
