ZJ tanks are strapped right to the body. On WJs, if you don't have a tank skid, you still have a thinner piece of metal there to hold the tank. On the ZJ, those of us without skids can see the bottom of the bare plastic tank.

Pillaged a bunch of D30 parts, put it all together, then slapped it in place.

No more whining noises!!!

Hoping the clicking and popping noises are from parts lining up still

Installed new upper and lower ball joints. Now for some tires and an alignment.

Looks good! Did you use your old board and where did you get your headliner fabric? I'm having a hard time finding anything other than solid colors and my original fabric is sagging more than sticking at this point.

I did use the old board, which btw isn't made of what I thought. I thought it was fiberglass, but its an orange/yellowish hard foam. Not as easy to work with. A couple of the edges started to crumble. I got the fabric at Joann's, and I used permatex headliner/carpet adhesive.

I'm swapping a 231 in place of my 249 with a spent VC soon.

I'd rather drive around in 2wd in the snow and engage 4HI when I want it engaged. Rather than when the case thinks I need it engaged.

I've lived my whole life in Maine and grew up driving rear wheel drive rigs in the snow, even before I had a driver's license, so I know how to drive in the snow without 4wd.
I actually prefer to drive in 2wd in the snow, using 4HI only for up hills.

I'll keep the 249 for sure, and probably pick up a VC for it eventually, so if by some chance I do break the 231 in the course of wheeling, I'll have a back-up T-case.
Sharp turn in the snow with 4wd booo sharp turns with 2wd fun really though 4 doesn't turn as tight as 2

That only applies to 93-98 249's. It's fine to pull the shaft in the 96-98's.

I moved my charcoal canister into my k&n intake box, rerouted my front axle vent, and fixed my driver side power seat.

XJs are the same way and they don't blow up.

This whole non-sense about ZJs bursting into flames is way over hyped.
