Read through the how to swap a t case thread to refresh my memory on it since im hoping to get mine swapped this weekend. I've read through it a bunch of times but I'm still a little unsure on my ds length sitch and I'm trying to get all my ducks in row before I get started. I read on there that the internal slip yoke which my 249 has is an inch and a half shorter than the external slip yoke which my 231 has. Will I be solid with just having my ds shortened an inch and a half or is there a way to measure exactly how much it needs to be shortened before I do the swap? Also I am getting ready to do the iro 4.5 inch lift, could that make it so I don't need to shorten the ds?

When I did mine, I mocked up the stock drive shaft and pretty much eyeballed how much needed to be cut. I put the stock shaft into a vice, got out a reciprocating saw and cut. Is it the right way to do it? Nope. Do I care? Nope. Does it work? Yep. Are they any vibrations from my cut not being perfectly straight? Nope. Most people said don't do it that way. I'm not recommending it to you, but I'm saying it'll work if you're careful enough with it.

Actually I was talking to my buddy that's letting me use his garage to do the swap and wheather or not its the right way to do it we were talking about cutting it down to size ourselves as well. This might be a stupid question, but did you cut the difference out of the middle of the shaft then weld it back together, or did you trim it from the slip yoke end of the shaft?

Its been a somewhat difficult week.

While doing my plenum, one of the intake bolts up front snapped off right at the head. So I started drilling it out and broke a drill bit in the hole. Finally got it drilled out after lots of pissin and yelling

After a day and half no leaks and it runs awesome now!!

After being successful with that project I finally finished a old project of a led light for my e fan conversion with a kill switch for water crossings.

I took my ZJ to the JY today.
I picked up a D30LP that has rust free spring perches and rust free control arm mounts for it, a D35c that has a good set of gears in it for my wife's ZJ, a super clean looking 231 that shifts good and quiet to replace my 249 that has a spent VC, a hidden hitch for mine, and a pristine factory 5 spoke alloy wheel.

All for $100!!!!

Here the are all finished up. Now just to wait for my LED lights to come in. I went ahead and rounded the tops of them to keep them from being sharp.

4 weeks ago sway bar links. And plugged in a solar charger to get around not finding the parasitic drain after 2 years.

Today, started a treat. Woo.

I trimmed it from the slip yoke. A fellow JF member told me it should work so I gave it a shot against lots of others advice. I figured worst case is I'd be out $30 for a JY DS.

Test Drive day!!

Today I installed my SUMMIT 3" exhaust system w/ 3" high flow cat.

I took her out for the first test drive since the 2" BB, transmission cooler, transmission filter & 7 quarts ATF+4, power steering cooler & system flush, fan clutch, complete control arm rebuild/ swap, new Bilstein shocks, sway bar bushings/ links front & rear, track bar bushings and the '95 to '96 face lift.

She drives great! Transmission is very smooth, no more moaning power steering pump. The turbo prop airplane fan is gone, replaced by a nice deep tone to the exhaust! And no leaks!! Looks nicer too!

I'll post pics and more detail in my build link ....
