I'll tell you what when I get the tube flares going you can have these basement window retaining walls

Ahh I forgot the luxury of having an early model ZJ with the filter outside.

It's mad max. You can't improve on that much.

Got my tranny put in (44re from junkyard) and mounted to np 242 (from craigslist). I will not miss you worn out 44re and burned up np 249. So exited to do mandatory burn out tomorrow

I pulled the cast of Jersey Shore out of a parking lot snow bank they were trying to conquer in their Hummer H2, good times...

Don't all 4.0s also have an external fuel filter?

Mine doesn't. Fuel filter is inside the pump, inside the tank. Only accessible by dropping the whole thing. Real pain when something stops working and you just filled er' up

Huh. My buddy's 96 has an external one. I figured it'd be the same as the 97s and 98s. That sucks.

I think 96 was the last year they were conveniently located outside the tank. The internal ones are meant to last the life of the pump though so it's all replaced as one unit.

Yep. The internal ones aren't quite as fine a filter (they determined that dirt finer than a certain point wasn't harmful to the system, I guess). Because of that, they figured that unless you're getting crap fuel all the time, it shouldn't clog up enough to affect flow until sometime after the pump dies.

Alrighty then. I guess for 96 they were more worried about the style change and OBDII changeover.
