It only hit the rev limiter once while I had mine... It was on dry ground, foot to the floor, it just held first a bit too long. It never did it again. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've done the same thing in the rain, usually just let off the throttle so I don't hit the limiter. Who knows though, maybe it would if I don't let off...

edit: I really don't know much about transmissions, especially autos and how they work, but maybe it means you need the bands adjusted. Try adjusting your TV cable first, though.
Does it shift fine & smooth when you're going easy on it? What about when you floor it? (these questions will help someone else help you, I don't really know what I'm talkin about)

I enjoyed the ride to and from work, with the wonderful smell of coolant, radiating from the dash! :-/

I hit the rev limiter in the niner every time it rained. It bumped off it then shifted into the next. Never any problems, that tranny was solid

yeah really its near 350 in gear , cleaning the i.a.c. thing on the back of the intake help?

ive been thinking about putting some 1/1000th spacers on the intakes throttle assembly to put the idle at 800 or so. Think it would work ?

Yea clean the Iac or replace it maybe. Spacers won't help. That's no going to solve any problem but waste money. The computer will learn around it. Fix the issue at hand.

yeah it felt like what you explained, holding first too long, but I've been having problems with the tv cable so I believe that's the problem. I adjusted it and it wouldnt shift until about 3k rpms but I got it adjusted now to where it's shifting correctly. but the hole isn't lined up correctly so I think I need a new cable. but it does shift fine easy on it and flooring it, sometimes smoother shifts than others but I can't complain for it having damn near 200k on the clock.

Yep, that's exactly how mine was. Not sure if my TV cable was the issue though, I adjusted it and changed the shifting a bit but it was still random-feeling (whether it would be smooth or hard going in to the next gear). I know my 1-2 shift would usually be pretty hard...
