What brand power steering pump ?

Ok im getting $500 tomorrow from a landscaping Job i did, and I REALLY need a new power steering pump.. Mine leaks badly.. and the pully is cracked, and it wobbles.. I've gone through 4 drive belts in 2 years now the wobbly pully just ruins them i guess.. basicly the pully's after like 3 months just start to chirp and chirp then squeel and dont stop.. My new one with only like 3k miles on it is doing it AGAIN... altho im going to return it and tell them hey... this damn belt is bad and I want a new one.. I doubt they will do anything but it has like a 1-2 year warranty on it so what the hell.. I have a new waterpump, new idler pully, the other pully's are fine, put im not too sure about the tensioner i might need a new one too... How good are those tensioners from advance auto ? They dont seem to be spring ones like the stock one is

The ones at autozone and Advance auto parts have terrible reviews where they leak instantly.. I have tried a junkyard one before for $35 but that was a mistake and waste of money..

So yea need a new pump..

I kind of went through a similar ordeal except it was with my steering gear... So I ponied up and got a PSC gear and haven't been happier since. That said, I recommend going with a PSC pump. It may be a little more expensive than the others, but you're paying for the quality and peace of mind. Always better to do it right the first time around.

It says for 97-06 TJ, but they list it as the same for ZJs. You can cross reference part numbers or give them a call to be sure.

I bought one from Oreilly's a while back. I haven't had any problems with it and it came with a lifetime warranty. And I agree with HighLonesome, get a metal pulley from an early zj.

They both use the same pump. Pre '03 TJs and ZJs share the same steering gear too. Like I said before, PSC's website lists the TJ pump for the ZJ when you look it up. Also from O'Reilly's website it lists the same pump for the TJ and ZJ. You can check it out under the "compatibility" tab:

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...2869&ppt=C0031

I'd go with the PSC pump.

Also if you're looking for a new tensioner, check at Napa. I recently replaced my tensioner last year from Napa and it was exactly like the oem tensioner and was made in Canada. Much better than the Mexico or Chinese junk.

I went with the one from Advance Auto last year for mine. I was also worried about the bad reviews and talked to the guys at the store (lucky to have a few good knowledgeable folks there) who said the rarely get returns on that pump. I also got a metal pulley from them and put it on last Oct. No problems. I think most of the reviews came from people that beat the pulley on with a hammer.

They both work fine. At the shop today, I had a 94 Cherokee come in saying the PS pump was on the way out. I put ATF+4 in it. Fixed all noises. Ran like a new pump.
