washing the engine bay

Anyone on here wash out their engine bay without screwing up their electrical on their zj

Yep, just cover your battery terminals, coil, and cap/rotor. They can withstand normal water exposure but hose pressure and especially power washer becomes a water injection into the sensitive stuff. I just used plastic walmart or grocery bags to cover.

I did also however I only covered my rotor and wires leading to the plugs

Do it all the time without issue . I dont hit the distibuter area directly , but everything else is no prob . If your wires are good , you won't have an issue . Good way to test them :) .

i grab a bottle of greased lightning about once a month and dump it into a bottle (the sprayer sucks on the regular bottle) soak the entire engine bay down while i drive to the car wash, get there and spray it down with more greased lightning, and spray the SHIIIIT out of it, not focusing the stream on the dizzy or wires other then that clean her up good, ill see if i can find a pic.

after i get done in the summer time ill let it dry and then spray the engine bay with armorall. gives it a nice clean shine

This is with about 210K miles and this is after about 3 months of not washing it and a few trail trips and crappy weather

Been using high-pressure washers under the hood since I bought my ZJ new in 2/94. I don't drill in close to anything sensitive. Never had a problem.

I use the engine degreaser stuff from the parts store, the citrus one. Spray a couple cans on everything under the hood, trans, axles, everything. Wait a few minutes. Hose it off. I make sure to just mist the dist and wires but everything else gets a jet of water. Never had any problems. Not like an Eagle Talon I had once, same thing but only ran water over the parts, no pressure. Wouldn't start until I blew all the underhood connectors out with compressed air and even then it ran poorly for a couple days.

Get yourself a toothbrush. Engine degreaser and elbow grease.

I use Simple Green and buckets of hot water from the kitchen sink... Then I usually start wiping and scrubbing followed by gentle rinse with a hose..248,000 miles and still looks good..
