Waggy or Durango steerin box ??

I guess I should already know what the concensus is on this one .

The Waggy box is $300 and the Durango $400 . To be sure , its from an 86 Wagoneer or an 86 Grand Wagoneer ?

Thanks

Looks like it does make a difference between the 2 . The wagoneer has 3 bolts , the Grand waggy has 4 (pics on NAPA computer), pretty sure it's the GW box I'm after . One thing that gets me is the waggy box has a quicker ration that the GW box , so the spec at NAPA says .

Any input ? They never had either box , the computer lied , but ordered in the Waggy box , three tabs . I'm gonna fax them and have them bring in the GW box when I confirm it's the one

The Grand Waggy box is what you want. I'd guess the 3 bolt box they gave you is from an XJ with the Wagoneer trim pkg.

I guess I'm too new to know, but what is the allure of the Wagoneer box over the ZJ box?

Haha, Greeny boy, but I am beyond gradeschool humor here.

I just had my steering box replaced so I wish I'd known there was a better option. I got the tighter ratio but that's about it. An autozone rebuild. Seems pretty good. The first they sent sucked. A horrible ratio. Felt like driving an old 80's Suburban. Loose steering, horrible amount of turning to actually maneuver, etc. I got a good one afterward. I just wish I'd known there was some sought after gear to go after. Now I'm wishing I could go back in time. What's funny, and I posted a thread about this not too long ago, but I found out the problem wasn't my steering box! So...I have the OEM one sitting as a backup. I guess I'll keep it around just in case. Might as well gather as many extra ZJ parts as I can for those off-roading...mishaps.

I'll just get the KOR steering brace and leave you to your adolescent remarks...

I can't hold a straight face here, even in text. Geeze you all are a crazy bunch. JF is going to warp my fragile little mind.

Thanks for the input to all .

Dave , never got it yet , the proper one is ordered for tomorrow . I caught your write up on Mall Crawlin , thanks for chiming in

Jeff , when I bought my Jeep , I threw all common sence out the window , I already replaced the box once with a stock replacement , it didn't last much longer than the warranty , the shaft is ovaling at the pitman arm again . I won't go that route again as it cost me $250 . After being off work for 4 months , I'm back at er again so Mama says I can spend some dough . I'd pay more if it took it to cure the issue . After a few days driving the BMW again , perhaps I should just park the jeep ...........yeah right ,

Snowleopard , I recently went through replacing the ball joints , all the steering , bought the box brace , have new whl brgs installed etc etc etc , yeah , it's definately the box causing my issue here . Theres no slop in the steering , it's just wandering a little again , so I got the wife out to turn the wheel while I inspected the steering box , sure enough . I want my straight driving Jeep back again , it was nice while it lasted

The waggy box got great reviews from eveyone that installed it . It should have no issue taking my abuse and turning my little 32'' BFG's . After a few days driving it , I'll be sure to add my 2 cent opinion to the forum . Also , I'll get lots of pics for reference for anyone doing the swap .
