VIC going nuts

I've read a bunch of VIC threads about the unit dying or resetting and the suggestions to pull and bend prongs, etc.

I have a 96 GC Limited. I have been dealing with a bad headlight switch causing the dash lights to flicker. Haven't taken the time to fix that yet, but understand the problem.

Are the VIC and the headlight switch in any way connected?

The next time I have a full day off I'm going to pull the VIC to disconnect/reconnect/bend the connections, etc. but I'm really curious whether or not these two systems have anything to do with each other. If so I will tackle the headlight switch first since I know it is bad.

When the VIC acts up I see cross hatched boxes every where that writing would normally show up along with the LO Part Time/Full time notifications. In the vehicle picture all doors are open, etc.

No I don't think they are related at all, I had the headlight/dashlight problem but my VIC is fine. But I could be wrong.

If the headlight switch is shorting it could be messing with the ground of the entire dash. Could be, not necessarily. Check with FSM to see if those two share a common grounding point, which is quite possible.

My VIC just started going nuts too, but I fixed my headlight switch 6 months ago. It isn't consistent for me though. I can go days with it working perfectly fine then out of the blue it'll just start flashing and going nuts while I'm driving. I think mine might have something to do with the pipe clamp holding my connectors into the PCM though. Either way I'm pulling it this afternoon to check connections.

I had the same problem of the crossed and it seemed to do it after a storm or washed it and i did the one fix for the Coolant sensor bad and it was fine for a week or two then it burned up.... I think the crossed letter problem is tied into the VIC about to burn up.... I wish i had a good photo to show where to look to see if its starting to burn up in the area on the board like mine did...
