Very lazy gear change when cold

Hi All

I have a problem on my 96 Limited Auto. When it is cold the gear change is very very lazy. this only lasts for about 2-3 miles at the most then back to normal. I have done a search there are a couple of possible similar slurring issues but nothing I can find that describes this problem.

The box has had a complete fluid change a few months ago but the problem remains, other than this one issue everything is smooth and fine. Levels are good and no evidence of major fluid loss. The car is used to tow and the O/D cutout works okay as well.

As we are coming to the end of summer, I will start to see this problem occuring more frequently so figured I should start to look into it. Any advice on what to look for and where to start would be most helpful.

Thanks in advance.

I am assuming you are using the correct transmission fluid. I am thinking you may have a solenoid that is somewhat sticky. Once the fluid warms up and pressure is high enough to unseat it, everything works fine.
If I am correct, about the only thing you can do is to let it go until you have to replace the solenoid pack..

Thanks for the speedy reply.

Yes the correct fluid is in the box as this was put in by the main stealer at the last service.

Where are these solenoids located how easy are they to get to with the box inplace can they be cleaned or have they to be replaced enmass?

Is there anywhere where I can read up on the operation of this box?
